Aftermath of a Sale

Here's hoping all my friends in blogland that were affected by Sandy are safe.  I'm glad to see some of you are blogging, but to those that aren't, my thoughts are sent your way! We're feeling Sandy a little here in Indiana.  Huge cold front, lots of rain, and wind gusts up to 50 mph.

It looked like Sandy in my garage after the big sale on Saturday.  It was quite a successful day and I plan on doing it again this spring, with the first signs of warm weather.  Or maybe even this winter, if I ever get my house in a shape where I would want people to see it.  I'm laughing because that will probably never happen.

The sale opened at 8.  I said no early birds and I even posted a sign that said I wouldn't open the garage until 8, which meant there was a line of about 10 or 15 people waiting to get in as soon as my doors opened.  It was like opening the doors to a department sale on Black Friday.  I could not believe people.  Elbow to elbow and kinda pushing each other to get to my stuff, while I heard squeals of delight, "her prices are so great!"  I stood in the driveway and watched as people dug through my stuff and made piles on the driveway.

Thought I'd show some before pictures.  There's really not much after, as most of it is gone.  Which is why my main etsy shop is so sad looking.  But, now I have even more money to buy more goodies!

Even though both had NFS tags, I can't believe how many
folks wanted my chippy blue shelf and old rusty bar cart.

Have a great Tuesday!

Another Sale + An Update

As if selling at the Covered Bridge Festival the last 2 weekends wasn't enough, I am having another sale!  This time, it's going to be at my house.  I want to get rid of as much as possible and start over fresh with lots of new items this fall/winter.  Who can blame me?  So, if you're in the area, please come visit me!  Pictures and address will be posted Thursday or Friday.  If you email me (see link off to the right) and you want a sneak peek, we can set up a meeting Thursday or Friday evening! :)

Also, an update.  Do you remember the Stanley Upholstery sign I bought?  Well I gave it to my dad to hang at our family farm (hunting grounds).  Look what he did to it....

He added the "Hunting Camp & Lodge" and "Est. 2002," which was the year he purchased it.  He added a clear coat to it when he was finished, so it will be weather resistant, because the white paint used to come off like crazy.  Well, the clear coat brought some of the rust through, which really added character.

As for the other half of the sign - going to the scrap metal pile.

Happy Tuesday!

My First Experience as a Vendor

Saturday was my first experience as a vendor during a large festival that is oriented around crafts, home goods, and the best part - antiques and vintage goodies galore.  I was so graciously invited to join the wonderful group at the US 40 Livery Stable.  I have nothing but good things to say about my experience and I'm really looking forward to this weekend.

The barn itself and the actual Covered Bridge Festival didn't open until 10am, but I was setting up outside the barn, so I arrived at 9, just in time to start catching the traffic headed in to the festival. Literally as soon as we were unloaded (THANKS MOM FOR HELPING!) and barely unpacking things onto the tables, cars full of people were stopping in.  In fact 2 wonderful ladies even finished helping us unpack and spent a great deal of money.  I think they were just more interested in being the first people to see some of my items, but nonetheless, I was grateful for any little bit of help.

I was pretty well slammed for a good 2 hours.  In fact, if I didn't sell a single thing the rest of the day, I was already having a really good day.  This was when I finally had the chance to stop and smell the roses, errr, take pictures of my set up.  What stinks is about a third of what I brought was already gone.  No, wait, that doesn't stink, but it doesn't make for very great pictures.  Also, I forgot my good camera, so you will have to settle for my smart phone pics.  Anyways... here she is...

also isn't the barn the mostly lovely chippy green??

we were set up in what used to be the corral for various
barnyard animals.  you can also see the ridiculously
beautiful old farm house that is on the property.

I had nowhere to hang my sign
I also didn't have to take a single credit card all day

So a good majority of this is gone.  And did I mention that I only set up Saturday?  I was unable to set up Sunday due to severe weather.  Thunderstorms and wind gusts up to 35 mph.  It would've been a miserable time.  Now I've got to start tagging a lot more items so that I have enough stuff to last 2 days next weekend. The weather is looking perfect - sunny and 60s.  Cool, crisp, I'll take it.

Prep

Please be warned - these photos were taken in my garage.  I've been doing all my prep here for the last 3 weeks.  I really can't wait to park in here again.  Its getting pretty cold out at night.  Thank goodness for automatic start on my truck, so I don't have to go out to start it in the morning.

The sign I made for myself from cardboard and chalkboard
paint.  Also the remake on the cookie canisters... they were
completely outdated and undesirable before the coat of
chalkboard paint.  I think it brings them to the now.

Stufffffffffffff.........

More stuffffffffffffff........

Bought these patterns for packing, because the thought of
going through them for completeness to sell... *shudder*

More chalkboard paint projects.  Way to upcycle ugly old
canisters - chalkboard paint!

Under the table view... torch lamps, printers tray, oil cans,
child's chair, and hat boxes

More under the table... canisters, crocks, sewing table drawers

More under the table... train case, boxes, bottles, bottles,
BOTTLES....

On the floor... bread boxes, picnic basket, enamel, etc....

I feel like the list of things I need to do keeps getting longer the closer I get to Saturday.  Can't wait for it to get here already!

Only 4 Days Left Until Covered Bridge Festival

Image courtesy of The Brazil Times

Melissa's Antiques will be live and in person the 2 weekends during the Covered Bridge Festival.  I will be a vendor at the US 40 Livery Stable.  It is located at 4870 US 40 E, Brazil, IN 47834.  You can come see me for 4 full days -- October 13-14 and 20-21.  I will be there from early morning until sundown!  Please stop by and say hello!  While you're at it -- there will be plenty more vendors inside and out!

My main etsy store will be closed Oct 12-22.  Keeping my Christmas shop open, as I have opted to not bring any of it with me.

I still have quite a bit to do... finish tagging items, finish packing everything in boxes, get change from the bank, gather items I will more than likely need for the day (tape, pens, etc)... The list goes on.  The most important thing - can I fit everything in my 2 trucks?  Or even worse - do I even have enough stuff?  Have I tagged enough stuff to bring the following days if I sell a good portion of stuff?

This is my first try as a vendor during a big festival - so if any of you seasoned festival vendors have any advice for me - I'd LOVE to hear it!  Anything big or small is appreciated.

Have a wonderful Monday, everyone!

Thanksgiving and Christmas in the Air?

Halloween hasn't even arrived, but it seems as though all the big box stores are already done with it, minus the candy. My local big box store already has their entire garden center, or what used to be a garden center, filled to the brim with cheap Christmas decor. I've also noticed that there is an aisle devoted to the specialty ingredients you may need to cook your Thanksgiving feast. Apparently it's never to early to stock up on this. So, if that's the case, I just listed a couple of holiday items in my ebay store.  These were part of the stuff I got from the great auction this past weekend that I forgot to photograph before I tagged it and packed it for my first experience as a vendor.

Lot of cute Gurley Thanksgiving candles

Extra Large Santa & Tree.  Both 8 in or taller.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS?  I think I've covered all the major holidays for the rest of the year in the last 2 days.

I'm on a roll.

Halloween Decorations

I hit up one of my local thrift stores after work today that I haven't been to in quite awhile.  Apparently they decorate for every holiday.  And by decorate, I mean hoard years worth of holiday decor and dump it on top of the shelves and clothing racks.  What was nice about it, was that I didn't have to dig for anything.  I found a few great Halloween items.  They're available in my ebay store now!

Some vintage Trick or Treat pumpkins.

Empire Plastics Blow Mold (marked 1980)

Treat Bags - there were 112 all together.  2 unopened
bags of 40, plus 32 loose.

Much cuter with the raffia ribbon?

Great finds for a Tuesday, no?  Anyone else with great Halloween finds?
