Thrifty Things Friday #7

TTF @ Melissa's Antiques

Welcome to the next installment of Thrifty Things Friday!  I actually bought a few things last Sunday, but I have been swamped with so many other things, I just haven't had time to clean them up and photograph them.  However, I made a pretty big purchase last week.  I told you I was selling off a lot of stuff because I had a big purchase on the horizon.  I guess I've been doing well lately, because here's what I was talkin' about:

I bought a new truck: a 2014 Ford Edge.  This is a lot bigger than my old truck (2011 RAV4).  I just needed more room for junk!  Apparently these are really popular right now, especially in this color.  This came from a dealership about 200 miles away.  Luckily, I was still able to deal with someone I knew at my local Ford dealership.  So far I'm loving it.  Really loving the Ford Sync and the satellite radio.  I don't think I've changed it from the Classic Vinyl station yet.  Anyways... let's get on to TTF!

Let me start with the featured post from last week's TTF:

I got a good laugh out of this one!  The lazy girl's guide to estate sales!

My De-Stash Sale

So, sticking to my word about taking a junkin' hiatus, I decided to try and sell more of my stuff this past Saturday.  I actually didn't do too badly, considering all the events that were going on in Indy.  Some of those events are ones that I attend every year, in fact.  So, I bought nothing this weekend, but I'm here to show you my set up.  Please bear with me, because the inside the garage pictures were taken Thursday evening.  The rest of the pictures were taken after the initial 8AM crowd died down.

This aqua blue cabinet went to her forever home Saturday morning.  So happy someone loved her as much as I did.  I would've kept her had I painted her mint green.

I don't have much to say this morning.  Quite a bit of this is still available.  Feel free to shoot me an email if you see anything you like.  It may take me awhile to find it since this has all been packed back up.  Or, you can't wait until my next sale, which will be in the next couple of weeks.

Hope you all had a great weekend.
Melissa

Thrifty Things Friday #5

TTF @ Melissa's Antiques

Welcome to the next installment of Thrifty Things Friday!  As many of you are reading this, I am preparing for yet another sale.  But, I don't have to go too far.  Everything just has to be unpacked from boxes and placed on tables in my garage.  I am trying to get rid of as much as possible, because I'm trying to make room for some new pieces of furniture in my house.  Plus, as I told you, I am trying to earn money to pay for my next summer class (CHECK!) and another big purchase on the horizon.  No it's not a house.  At least not until I find another one that fits my personality!  But, it does have to do with all this junkin' I've been doing.  I'll share more later.

Last week I won a give away hosted by Helen and her Daughters.  Look at the fun goodies I got!

The goodies are sitting atop a pair of vintage suitcases with my initials (so you know I HAD to have them) that I bought about a year ago.  The picture in the background was a find from the US 40 garage sale.  It is of a marching band from Indianapolis.  I was a big ol' band nerd in high school AND college.  So I have a soft spot for old photos like this.

So let's get on to TTF!  Let me start with the featured post from last week's TTF:

The Woodruff Place Flea Market

Wow is pretty much all I can say.  It was a crazy, busy, insane weekend.  For the most part.  We started loading the 14ft enclosed trailer on Thursday evening and we finished it up on Friday evening.  It was almost full.  How in the WORLD did I have that much stuff?  I seriously have NO IDEA where I kept it all.  My house is 1100 square feet.  I have no basement.  I do, however, use half of my 2 car garage, 1 of the 3 bedrooms, and I have an attic.  But still, HOW DID I HAVE THAT MUCH STUFF?!  Sorry, I have no before picture of the loaded trailer, but imagine how much stuff will fit in roughly 350 square feet of space.

So, I know you all are going to laugh... but I think I'm starting to build a reputation around the office (at the day job) as the crazy junk lady.  A coworker bought a (new to her) 1932 craftsman style home.  She has been working on remodeling it.  She got new windows and took out all of the old ones.  Which were the original windows to the house.  She gave them to me.  We left work a little early on Friday so that I could go to her house and pick them up.  When she was having the windows replaced the men were going to just throw them away, but she asked them to save them for me.  Isn't that sweet?  There were 14 in total.  Here they are in the back of my truck.

So Saturday morning I got up way before the sun and was at my set up location for the flea market just as the sun was rising (about 5:45A).  Dad and mom arrived shortly after with the trailer full of stuff.  We set up as quickly as we could.  We started having shoppers around 7A and the market was not even set to open until 8A.  We were still rearranging and making the booth look decent well into the 9A hour.  But, it was insanity.  There were times when I had probably 50 or more people looking at all of my stuff.  I had no times for pictures of the before.  It was just too much.  At times it was even too much for all 3 of us to handle.  By 10:30 I was ready for a cold beer.  I was able to snap some pictures when we had a few lulls in the crowd.  I'm guessing that at least 5,000 people walked through my space and even more walked by (hey - their loss!  I know not everyone is in to "old junk").

Standing in the back - a view to my left.

Standing in the back - a view to my right.

Standing in the front a view to the right.

There weren't very many windows left at the end of the day.  I think about 10 had already been sold at this point.

It was just the perfect day.  We were shaded under 2 big trees all day.  We had the best hosts that let us set up in their front yard.  And, I hit my weekend goal just on Saturday.  We decided that we weren't going to go back on Sunday for a few reasons: 1. it was raining all morning; 2. I hit my monetary goal on Saturday; 3. Sunday is usually pretty light traffic-wise; 4. we were all EXHAUSTED.  I did capture a couple of pictures of how empty the trailer was when we finished loading it all back up.

And finally - my friends over at Junkey Monkeys brought me this... (Also check out their page for a few funny pictures from Woodruff this weekend... like free condoms, "snake charmers", and large wizard hats... I'm not joking... You never know what you will find at Woodruff!)

I added this cool S to my fireplace decor.  I can't show you the other side -- it's still a mess.  And who has time to completely style their fireplace for a quick pick to upload to Facebook? ;)

Anyways, then I binge-watched the entire second season of Orange is the New Black on Sunday and ate pizza for 2 meals.  It was awesome.

So, I am going to be having a few garage sales over the next month.  Going to continue to de-stash what was left in the trailer.  I also want to sell some stuff from my house, so I can replace it with (new to me) old stuff!

Thanks to all of you who came out on Saturday.  Thanks to those of you who sent me encouraging messages on FB, emails, and comments on the blog.

Melissa
