2014 Recap: My Most Popular Posts

I love this time of year... looking back to see how far I've come in the last year.  Luckily writing this blog really helps me keep track.  I don't really track my blog stats.  I don't care if 5 people are reading or 100.  I don't write this blog to earn money (which is why you'll never see a sponsored post that I don't 100% believe in). I write this blog mostly for me, but to have gained like-minded readers along the way is just a bonus.

As always, my most popular post continues to be My Shiny Brite Encyclopedia.  I wrote it back in 2011 in the baby days of this little blog.  It's how a lot of you found me.  I still get emails all year round asking for help in identifying ornaments.  I'm always happy to do so.  This post is also how several magazines found me and asked me for help in writing articles on Christmas ornaments.  One of these days I'm going to update it.  Mostly it just needs better pictures!

So, here's a breakdown of this year's most popular posts...

#1. Garage Sale Season Has Started With a Bang!

How can I forget this?  It was the haul of a lifetime.  I'm still holding out hope that somewhere out there an even better haul is waiting for me in someone's garage.  They're just waiting for the weather to warm back up again.

#2. My New "XXX BUS" Booth

I moved into my new space in August.  I just had so much stuff, it was time for a second booth!

#3. The Kirklin Flea Market + Auction Finds

I took you on a little tour of Kirklin, Indiana and some of their antique shops in this post.  I can't wait to go back this summer.  I heard a rumor that there's a few new shops opening up!

Well, there's last year in a small snapshot.
Here's to another year full of good trips and good junk!

Pre-Holiday Thrifting

I did manage to get a little thrifting in before the holidays.  Unfortunately I came down with the flu right after my day of thrifting and I'm just getting over it!  I did manage to snap a few pictures.

All the holiday finds!

 Some non-holiday finds.

I also picked up quite a bit of LuRay pastel dishes and 12 wooden dovetail boxes.  I didn't get pictures of those before I carted them off to the booth yesterday.  It was my first day feeling normal, so I had to get out of the house.  At least I won't be sick tomorrow - it's my birthday!

Hope you all had a wonderful holiday!
This will be my last post for 2014 - so Happy New Year to you all, as well!

Moments From the Shiny (Brite) Stars TV Debut!

Hey all!  Were you were able to catch the Shiny Brite's TV debut last night on The Fosters?  I was a proud momma and took many photos.  So, if you missed it, here they are for you to see!

She's holding this exact box!

An empty Coby box sitting there.
These beautiful pearly white ornaments were used a lot on the tree.

Also above was this box.
I was really sad they didn't feature these beautiful ornaments.

Original picture from my etsy shop.
See the pretty green mica one above?

She's holding one of these, but they put pink in instead.

She's holding one of the many empty boxes I sold.

Another empty box above in a shot.
See the bright orange sticker?
That's how I knew it was mine!

The prop buyer requested lots of empty boxes.

So glad that at least one of the garlands made a debut.

This is the best tree shot I can get.
They did use most of the ornaments purchased from me on it!

So, plenty of my Shiny Brite babies that traveled out to Burbank (Warner Bros Studios) didn't make it on the show, but as you can see, many of them did!  I've sold to magazines, movie studios, etc. before, but to date, this has been my best (most viewed) showing!

Thanks WB for helping me keep my dream of doing this for a full-time gig alive.
Contact me any time.  Especially if it's for more Shiny Brites.

My TV Debut

Remember the large order of vintage Christmas I sent to Warner Brothers Studios back in September? Here's a little reminder!

A photo posted by Melissa's Antiques (@melissasantiques) on

Well, I finally have the airing information for you guys!  My stuff will be featured in the Christmas Special of The Fosters.  It will air on ABC Family on Monday, December 8th at 8PM EST / 7PM Central.  I'll be in class, doing a final presentation for my accounting class that night, so I'll be DVRing it.  Can't wait to take screen shots of my stuff.  It's like actually knowing someone on a TV show.  Except it's Shiny Brites instead of a person.

The Holidays Have Officially Arrived at My Booths!

Hey all!  Yet another weekend where I didn't buy anything.  However I had plenty to take to my booths, since the holidays are upon us!  I didn't move a whole bunch around that was already there, but I added quite a bit!  Here's a peek at what it looked like before I spent 4 1/2 hours there on Friday afternoon.

The New Booth:

Can you spy any vintage Christmas?

I need a sale with tons of 45s.
I can barely keep them in stock.

I spy a vintage chenille wrapped Christmas wreath.

A little bit of Lefton holly berry pattern.
Perfect for Christmas.
And added a bag of Jewelbrite ornaments.

Other bits of vintage Christmas.

And some more.

I even hung some bottle brush wreaths on the wall.

Added a bag of vintage Japan santas.

I filled a huge enamel basin with baggies of little vintage Christmas bits.

The Old Booth:

How do you like my new Christmas color themed display?
I surprising don't have a ton of red things in my booth.

I changed up the postcard display from general postcards.
Now the 3 upcoming holidays are up there.

I try to use up every little space in my booth.
Even this small space in between the beam.
I wish I had a little shelving unit that fit in here.

A whole shelving unit full of Christmas.

 And a table full too!
