What a great past weekend. It was pretty busy, but fun. This week has been even busier and life won't be slowing down until I finally get a week off for fall break in October. Thank goodness.
I'd go into a long story about my weekend... but it included: serving beer at my very large Catholic church's fall festival, spending time with my nephew on the carnival rides, eating WAY too much carnival food, going to one of the biggest auctions I've ever seen of stuff no one wants, and studying for my managerial accounting class.
I had to share one picture of me with my cute nephew.
He loves me because he knows he's going to get
something full of sugar when he's with me.
Usually it's ice cream.
So, let me get on to why you're really here. The weekly finds. There weren't a lot of options for good auctions nearby me on Saturday. I couldn't travel too far due to my obligations to the church. (When your obligation is to serve beer you don't complain, because it's actually a ton of fun.)
So, I don't know if you can tell, but this is a gigantic pole barn. Probably about the length and width of 2 football fields. The first picture is me standing at the entrance, while the next is me standing almost half way through. This was at the local small-town fairgrounds. It came out of a 1,500 square foot house that had a basement and a garage. The woman who own it all was definitely a hoarder. She lived with it piled around her. The amazing thing was that this woman was an extremely clean hoarder. Most of it was unopened craft supplies (not the good stuff, either) and dollar store items.
What I really liked is that the auctioneers knew there wasn't much stuff that people wanted besides the furniture. So we went through all the tables of stuff lightening fast. And stuff went cheap, cheap, cheap. There were a lot of flea market type people there. They were buying several tables full of stuff for a dollar. The furniture was saved for last. Some brought decent money. I also went to a friend's garage sale that I knew was de-stashing some of her vintage goodies.
So, let me show you what I bought.
My only furniture purchases. The table on the left is in pristine condition. The table on the right needs some work. I was thinking of taking it apart and giving it a barnwood top, since the current one is a little warped.
The 70s are back and they brought Arnel's mushroom canisters and other pieces with them. I've seen a TON of funky 70s stuff popping up on every intsa-shop lately... so I thought I might give it a try in my booth. Are you starting to see more 70s items pop up in antique malls near you?
Set of Libbey glasses.
Set of Dorothy Thorpe (style) barware.
This same set is selling in the $60-$80 range on eBay.
More funky 70s stuff.
Truth time: I bought 2 full vintage Singers. You know,
the ones with the metal bases. Fully intending to rip
off the top and add barnwood to make a cool table.
Well, I didn't exactly have enough room in my truck.
So, I took out the drawers and sold the bottoms to
another auction attendee that wanted them.
I got the Pyrex and syrup dispenser from my
friend's de-stash sale. Mom picked up the green
items at a garage sale on Friday on her way to
volunteer for the church carnival.
Spools and antique post cards.
2 things I totally needed more of. (sarcasm.)
What can I say, they're consistent sellers.
